Title: Professional use of the Internet: Legal and ethical issues in a member care environment.
Journal of Psychology and Theology,

Editor:
Pub. Data: 29, 106-120.    2001
Pub. Type: Article      15 pages
Summary: An article raising ethical and legal issues in the use of the Internet by professionals in providing member care. Recommendations are presented which can help mission organizations and member care professionals promote ethical practice and reduce legal liability when providing online services. A condensed form of this article is also in Powell & Bowers (2002) Enhancing Missionary Vitality, pp. 463-471.
Gems: The good news to date is that there currently is no record of disciplinary action by a licensing board or malpractice litigation for providing professional mental health services over the Internet. The bad news is that this state of affairs is not likely to remain for long..In spite of these suggestions, we still lack a clear and simple definition for determining when a professional client-therapist of patient-physician relationship is occurring over the Internet.
